Chiropractic

Every chiropractic appointment at Chiltern Health Centres is one-to-one, in a private treatment room with your own clinician.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on form of healthcare built around you. It looks after your musculoskeletal (MSK) system – your bones, joints and muscles – and the nervous system that works alongside it, with the aim of helping you feel and live better. Treatment is natural and non-invasive.

Whether you want to ease pain, move more freely or simply keep your body in good working order, your care is planned around you and your goals.

No referral needed

You can book with a chiropractor directly – there’s no need to see your GP first, because chiropractors are primary care practitioners. We are trained to assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of MSK problems, especially those involving the spine, and to understand how they affect your nervous system and your general health.

Problems in the spine and joints can affect how well your body moves, works and heals. Using targeted adjustments and manipulation, we aim to improve alignment, ease discomfort and help your joints and muscles work better.

Your first appointment

Your first visit starts with a thorough assessment. We’ll ask about the problem that has brought you in, your medical history, and your general health and lifestyle.

Looking at the whole picture helps us understand what you need – and whether chiropractic is the right choice for you.

Our focus is MSK health, which is exactly what chiropractors are trained for. If your symptoms need looking into further, we’ll refer you on to the right healthcare professional.

A holistic approach

We look beyond your symptoms to things like your lifestyle, how active you are and anything else that may be affecting your wellbeing. Alongside hands-on treatment, your chiropractor may give you advice on exercise, posture and nutrition.

Back and neck pain are what we see most often, but we treat many other MSK conditions too, and work alongside other healthcare professionals as part of your wider care.

Looking after your spine

Caring for your spine is part of caring for your health as a whole. Poor posture, too little activity and long hours sitting down can all lead to MSK problems – but with the right advice and treatment, many of them can be managed, and some prevented altogether.

Osteopathy & Massage

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to assessing and treating problems with the muscles, joints and spine. Our osteopath combines soft-tissue work, joint mobilisation and exercise advice, and has a particular interest in neck pain, headaches and age-related conditions such as osteoarthritis.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional and psychological purposes and goals. Sports massage increases range of movement, flexibility and relieves muscle soreness. It assists in injury prevention and promotes faster recovery from both training and injury.

Sports massage can also help to speed up the muscle repair and healing process.

What is Chiropractic and Osteopathy?

Chiropractic and Osteopathy are both primary health care professions specialising in the neuro-musculo-skeletal system with an emphasis on muscles and joints. Both therapies provide care for patients of all ages with a range of chronic and acute conditions. Chiropractic and Osteopathy share a common history and philosophy, which set them apart from the more traditional allopathic medical fields. Rather than focusing on the individual components of the body, Chiropractors and Osteopaths view the body in a more holistic manner, as a self-contained, self-healing and fully interconnected unit.

Chiropody & Podiatry

What is a Podiatrist / Chiropodist?

A podiatrist, also known as a chiropodist, is a healthcare professional who specialises in assessing, diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the feet, ankles and lower limbs.

Our feet play an essential role in everyday life, supporting our body weight and allowing us to walk, exercise and stay active. When foot problems develop, they can cause pain, discomfort and difficulty carrying out daily activities.

Whether you require routine foot care, treatment for a painful foot condition or help with a sports-related injury, podiatry can help relieve discomfort, improve mobility and maintain healthy feet.

Our Podiatry Services & Treatments

We offer a comprehensive range of podiatry treatments tailored to your individual needs.

Routine Foot & Nail Care

Professional foot care to help maintain healthy feet, including toenail cutting, management of thickened or difficult-to-cut nails, and treatment of common skin and nail conditions. Particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle to manage their own foot care and diabetic patients.

Corns & Callus Removal

Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin that develop due to repeated pressure or friction. Treatment involves the careful removal of hardened skin to relieve discomfort, alongside advice on footwear and pressure reduction to help prevent recurrence.

Verruca Treatments – Including Swift Microwave Therapy

Verrucae are common viral skin infections that develop on the feet and can sometimes become painful or persistent. We offer a range of treatment options, including Swift Microwave Therapy, an innovative treatment that uses controlled microwave energy to stimulate the body's immune response against the virus. We can also offer Verrutop verruca treatment.

Ingrown Toenail Treatment & Nail Surgery

Ingrown toenails occur when the edge of a nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, inflammation and sometimes infection. Treatment options range from conservative nail care to minor nail surgery under local anaesthetic. Nail surgery can provide a long-term solution for painful or recurring ingrown toenails.

Foot & Ankle Pain

Foot and ankle pain can develop for many reasons, including overuse, injury, unsuitable footwear and altered foot mechanics. A podiatry assessment can help identify the underlying cause and develop a personalised treatment plan to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Plantar Fasciitis (Plantar Heel Pain)

Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, often experienced during the first few steps in the morning or after periods of rest. Treatment may include stretching and strengthening exercises, footwear advice, orthotics and other approaches to reduce strain on the plantar fascia.

Achilles Tendinopathy

Achilles tendinopathy affects the tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel and can cause pain, stiffness and discomfort when walking, running or exercising. Treatment focuses on improving tendon strength and function through individually tailored rehabilitation exercises, activity modification and appropriate footwear advice.

Bursitis & Morton's Neuroma

Bursitis involves inflammation or irritation of a small fluid-filled sac that cushions tissues around joints, while Morton's neuroma involves irritation and thickening of tissue around a nerve, commonly in the ball of the foot. Both conditions can cause pain and discomfort when walking. Treatment may include footwear modifications, pressure relief, orthotics and other appropriate management options.

Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains occur when the ligaments supporting the ankle become overstretched or injured, often following a sudden twist or awkward movement. Podiatry treatment can help support recovery through rehabilitation exercises, strengthening, balance training and advice to reduce the risk of future injuries.

Orthotics & Insoles

Orthotics are specially designed insoles used to support the feet, redistribute pressure and improve comfort and function. They may be recommended for a variety of conditions, including heel pain, forefoot pain and certain foot and ankle problems. Following an assessment, we can advise on suitable insoles or orthotic devices based on your individual needs.

How Can Podiatry Help You?

Podiatry is not just about treating existing foot problems. It also plays an important role in preventing future complications and helping you remain comfortable and active.

Whether you are experiencing persistent foot pain, struggling with an ingrown toenail, managing a verruca or simply looking for professional routine foot care, we aim to provide effective, personalised treatment in a friendly and comfortable environment.

Healthy feet are essential for an active lifestyle. Our goal is to help you stay comfortable, mobile and confident with every step.

Dry Needling

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a treatment our chiropractors and osteopaths use to ease muscle pain, tension and stiffness. It is rarely used on its own. Usually it is one part of a wider treatment plan that may also include hands-on therapy, massage, stretching and exercises to do at home.

How does it work?

Your practitioner places very fine needles through the skin into tight, irritable spots in the muscle called myofascial trigger points. (“Myo” means muscle, and “fascia” is the thin layer of connective tissue that wraps around and supports it.)

Trigger points are small, tender knots that often feel sore when pressed. Some sit right where you feel the pain. Many, though, send pain somewhere else: a tight spot in the shoulder, for example, can show up as a headache. This is called referred pain.

Needling these points can help the muscle let go, improve blood flow to the area and ease pain both at the spot and where it is referred.

Why is it called “dry”?

The needles are solid and contain no medication, so nothing is injected. That is the difference between dry needling and trigger point injections, where a doctor injects medicine into the muscle.

In their words

Real patients, in their own words — several of whom have been with us for well over a decade.

I have been coming to the clinic for about 20 years. Fantastic care and support to get me better and maintain a lifestyle with a very bad lower back. Carry on the great work. We highly recommend!

Since I have been visiting the clinic, I never have to resort to pain killers. Plus I now know that I can attend those special events which in the past I would have had to cancel due to pain. A big thank you.

Had an appointment with Ashley to remove part of my big toe nail. Didn't know what to expect regarding the treatment I would need but was immediately put at ease with Ashley's caring demeanour. He explained some of the causes and issues that I was experiencing with my feet and treated all problem areas. The price was very reasonable considering the care I received and I left fully informed of how to maintain the health of my feet.
